Individual Fellowship Program

OVERVIEW

FST will support fellowships for individuals desirous of working in the thematic areas. The Fellowship Programme is intended to encourage individuals in north east India to pursue innovative work that will help in social transformation of the region. This can be in terms of strengthening one’s knowledge base and building capacity to promote new leadership and act as a catalyst for positive change in various economic, social and cultural areas that contribute to the development of the region.

FELLOWSHIP SUPPORT

The fellowship will cover expenses for training, travel, research and an appropriate allowance. Support could be extended to cover internships with corporations, civil society organisations and educational institutions; short-term technical and management courses applicable to an individual’s area of work . Fellowships may also cover additional limited expenses for relevant activities. 

The fellowship amount may vary depending on the nature and duration of the programme and is subject to a maximum of Rs. 1 lakh only over a period of one year. The amount must be spent within one year of the award of the fellowship. Any extension is subject to clearance from the FST Board after considering the circumstances and needs. Fellows may be part of a legally instituted NGO or be involved in an individual capacity in pursuing activities related to economic, social and cultural development. Fellows could also include artists, playwrights or researchers.

FELLOWSHIP CRITERIA

FST will consider applications for :

  • development, translation and dissemination of training materials
  • organizing appropriate activity linked workshops at the grassroots level
  • promoting specific skills and talents (formal / informal)
  • initiatives for improving the quality of human lives
  • innovative and creative campaigns to raise awareness on different issues through the medium of street plays, dramas, cultural programmes etc
  • developing a magazine, newsletter or other media related to a cause
  • undergoing short duration training, including internships
  • programmes with a participatory and rights based approach

FST will NOT consider applications for:

  1. non secular religious programmes
  2. projects located outside the region, which do not actively involve, promote or enable people in North East India.
  3. activities of government and government agencies and political parties.
  4. enrollment for degree study at academic institutions, or dissertation research
  5. fellowships to further partisan, political and religious affiliations

FST will accept applications for fellowships primarily from concerned individuals in the NE region. However applicants from outside the region, who wish to work on specific issues in the north east may be considered.

Criteria for selection include, but are not limited to, the applicant’s qualification and experience, the programme’s relevance to the goals of FST, and the applicant’s potential to accomplish them.

FST is looking for committed individuals who…

  1. have leadership potential
  2. have innovative and creative ideas for social transformation
  3. have the ability to impact public thinking and discourse on the issue
  4. have either appropriate academic qualification or relevant work experience or interest credentials to indicate commitment and ability 
  5. have not been convicted of any offence

Preference will be given to applications for full-time fellowships; however in special situations FST may consider applicants who can only work part-time on their programme.
